Amtrak Celebrates It’s 42nd Birthday Today
Today marks the anniversary of the beginning of train service in this country known as Amtrak. Amtrak's passenger railroad operations began on this date in 1971. Next week we will be starting a promotion on Y101 to give away a round trip for two to Chicago from Quincy aboard either the Illinois Zephyr ot the Carl Sandburg. We will ask a train related question and if you are the selected caller with the right answer you will qualify for a drawing to take place at 7:25 am on Friday, May 10th.
When you look at all of the routes that Amtrak has to offer you will notice one of the shorter runs they have on a daily basis. That run is the one that serves Quincy twice a day. When you study the stops it makes we should be fortunate that we have such a service for our area especially when a cities like Peoria and Rockford with over 100 thousand people living there have no Amtrak service. To have a route come to Quincy once is amazing but to have two trains serve Quincy is remarkable.
So be listening next week to the Y101 morning show for your chance to win a ride on the rails of Amtrak.
