American Legion Accepts Tattered Flags for Proper Disposal

According to the federal flag code the universal custom is to display the U.S. flag from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in the open, but when a patriotic effect is desired the flag may be displayed 24-hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. Also, the U.S. flag should not be displayed when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed.  No American flag shall fly if it is torn and tattered.Today might be a good day to check your American Flag and check on its condition. If it is still in good shape, fly it proudly. If it is torn and tattered, please replace it and purchase a new flag.

If you are one who needs to replace your current flag the question is where can I go to dispose of it properly? The answer is the American Legion building at 116 North Eight Street in Quincy. The local American Legion has a receptacle that was donated to accept tattered flags.
