The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards descended on New York City's Madison Square Garden on August 28, and saw performances from Rihanna, Britney SpearsAriana Grande & Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas with Ty Dolla Sign and Beyoncé.

It was Rihanna's turn to accept her own Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award following four medley performances — she was introduced by longtime friend and collaborator Drake in a speech that's only sweet if RiRi reciprocates his public adoration (that billboard was a stunt, though...right?!).

But the two previous recipients were standouts on Sunday, too: MTV awarded Kanye a four-minute space to explain his side of the Taylor-telephone call saga and debut the strangely awesome video for The Life of Pablo's "Fade." Meanwhile, Beyonce put in a 15-minute Lemonade stage show that damn near stole the show, while breaking Madonna's record for most VMAs won ever – and "Formation" won Video of the Year.

Fifth Harmony also took home a Moonman with Ty Dolla Sign, for Best Collaboration on "Work From Home" and Song of the Summer for "All In My Head (Flex)." Check out all the winners below.
